Yesterday's Tomorrows is a choreographic project that takes dance as an instance of knowledge, in order to dialogue with the educational principles of world cognition. The project relies on the possible convergence between art and knowledge production by being inspired by two reference pedagogical strategies. On the one hand, the German theorist Friedrich Fröbel, inventor of the Kindergarten and his use of the game as a fundamental tool for learning the materialities at work in the world. On the other hand, the renowned Brazilian educator and philosopher, Paulo Freire, an defender of a critical pedagogy in which the apprentice is considered a co-creator of knowledge. Both strategies are founded on a common basis: learning as practice for freedom.

In São Miguel, the project develops in a artistic residence (from November 7th to 12th) at Coral de São José's space, and results in a public presentation and conversation at vaga.

Yesterday's Tomorrows is conceived and directed by Gustavo Ciríaco; artistic collaborations - in the performance area, by Filipe Caldeira, Lewis Seivwright, Mariana Costa, Joana Levi, Sara Zita Correia and Tiago Barbosa, and in the set design area, by Ali Talaat; administration by Missanga Antunes; and support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
