From July 9 to 18, Open Studios 2026 presents a multidisciplinary circuit that invites the public to actively participate in contemporary creation through workshops, exhibitions, talks, performances, parties, an art fair, and children’s activities. Spread across studios, galleries, gardens, cultural spaces, and other locations on the island of São Miguel—spanning Ponta Delgada, Calhetas, Ribeira Grande, and Nordeste—the program fosters encounters between artists, communities, and the territory, valuing creative processes, experimentation, and knowledge sharing.
From artist books to ceramics, painting to embroidery, theater to performance, wood sculpture to film scoring and poetry, the workshops offer learning opportunities led by local artists and creators, tailored to different age groups and experience levels. The exhibitions, talks, and film screenings offer spaces for gathering, listening, and reflecting on contemporary art, while the performance and party program activates various spaces across the island through music, dance, and theater, transforming them into places of celebration and participation. The program also features a dedicated set of workshops for children, where imagination, curiosity, and experimentation serve as tools for discovery and creation.
This circuit connects spaces and partners of varying scales, amplifying the visibility of independent cultural projects operating on the island and contributing to the strengthening of the local artistic ecosystem.
Over the course of ten days, it brings together artists, collectives, and studios such as Anita Nemet & Antoinette Williams, Araucária Edições, Arte & Alegria, BRASA LAB, Casa Azul, Casal a Dias, Coletivo NÖIA, Coletivo PRISMA, Elliot Sheedy & Sofia Caetano, Estúdio Martim Cymbron, Filipa Gomes, Floresta Cultural, Galeria BRUÏ, ilhéu atelier, Kateryna Kondratieva, Luís Pacheco, Luís Senra, Mainty Studio, Margarida Andrade, Marta Duarte, Matéria 47, Mezzo Atelier, n’ovo studio, NANO — Núcleo Artístico do Nordeste, Oficina do Largº, Papel da Lua, Se Não Chove – Companhia de Teatro Comunitário Intergeracional, Sérgio Conceição, Símbolo Simbólico, Sofia Brito/Paulo Alves Atelier, Sofia Cabral Botelho, Susana Rosa, TARINA, TAT Onofre, Vítor Almeida, and Zsombi Keresztes.
The program also features an Art, Craft, and Design Fair, bringing together a range of local artists, artisans, and designers: Amores Handcraft, Anita Nemet, Azores Marketplace, Azores Atlantic Surfers, Henrique Mendonça, Isabel Ponte Macramé, Isla Art Azores, J R Patelier, Joel Fernandes, K design by Katrini H., Matéria 47, Melart, O Estúdio, Oana Nedelcu, Paula Dourado, Paulo Alves, Patrícia Pimentel, Pele e Osso, Rubén Monfort, Sara Azad, Sina C. Cerâmica, Sofia Brito, Sofia Cabral Botelho, Studio AVE, Sweetheartes, TAT Onofre, Tea Sculac, Traça Studio, Vanessa Branco, and Verónica Melo Art, as well as DJs MYKE LONE and Las Mákinas.
Open Studios takes place in studios and galleries, but also in other cultural spaces such as Arquipélago — Centro de Artes Contemporâneas, the Public Library and Regional Archive of Ponta Delgada, deriva — centro de artes performativas, Galeria Fonseca Macedo, vaga — espaço de arte e conhecimento, and Rubro. It extends further into heritage sites and public spaces, including Solar de Santo André, Mercado da Graça, Jardim António Borges, Largo da Igreja do Colégio, Quinta do Bom Despacho, and Rua de Pedro Homem in Ponta Delgada.
