Tomás Toste (Azores, Portugal, 1994) holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Multimedia, a master’s degree in Design and Advertising, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Fine Arts at ESAD.CR. His practice straddles visual communication and contemporary painting; he has participated in several group exhibitions, notably the GRAVE 4 group show, the 4th and 5th editions of Corrente de Ar, the Cerveira Biennial’s graduating class exhibition, and the National Exhibition of Young Creators. In 2026, he was honored with the 2026 nova vaga Award, José Mendonça, and Arte Jovem (Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa) awards, as well as the Prospettive Prize (Cremona Art Fair), and began being represented by Braço Perna 44 that same year.

His work investigates the figure and the image as unstable phenomena, exploring the relationship between perception, memory, and matter. Through processes of accumulation and erasure, his paintings and drawings place the figurative in suspension between appearance and disappearance, treating the image as an event in constant negotiation with the gaze, time, and the surface.
