Coral de São José
Portugal
Coral de São José was formed on March 19, 1967 to brighten Eucharist and Solemnities in the Church of São José, in Ponta Delgada, and in the studios of RTP Azores.
On December 8, 1996, an Association was established with its own statutes, being renamed Coral de São José - Associação Musical.
In January 2000, was recognized as a Regional Public Utility Institution, also receiving the Municipal Recognition Diploma of Ponta Delgada.
In May 2008 was distinguished with the Autonomous Insignia of Civic Merit by the Regional Government of the Azores.
From the Coral’s concert scene, that started in 1990, important and recognized compositions of Gounod, Rossini, Haendel, Mozart, Verdi, Beethoven, Puccini, Haydn, Santos Pinto, Carl Orff and Gershwin stand out.
The long career of Coral de São José allowed to contact with soloists, orchestras and maestros recognized in the musical world, both national and international.
On tour, has traveled to other islands in the Region, the USA, Madeira and Portugal.
Since 2012, Coral de São José has been developing an unprecedented project - Música no Colégio - the only event of its kind in the Azores that takes place in the summer and outdoors, with themed music nights in their different expressions.
Currently, with about 65 elements, Coral de São José develops the values of Symphonic Choir, Chamber Choir and Liturgical Choir, along with the promotion of Music Training classes.
Since 2007, Luís Filipe Carreiro is the musical and artistic director.
