Centriphery - Creative Europe

OPEN CALL DESIGNERS UNTIL 1 FEBRUARY 2019 SEE REGULATION

Walk&Talk - Azores Arts Festival is one of the nine partners of the "
Centriphery" program, winner of the European Commission's Creative Europe 2019-2021 funding. The program aims to cross artists and citizens from different European cities and regions to investigate the European intangible cultural heritage and promote the writing of contemporary narratives in the old continent.

The Centriphery program was launched this Thursday, November 8, in Perg in Austria, where until 14 is the international meeting hosted by the Festival of Regions, the Austrian structure that leads the project. In addition to members of the technical team, artists Gustavo Círiaco and collective Mezzo Atelier, representing the Walk&Talk, the team and artists invited by the various partner cultural structures: Stichting Culture Nova (Harleem, The Netherlands), Dansehalleme (Copenhagen, Denmark), Rijeka European Capital of Culture 2020 (Croatia), Prin Banat Association (Romania), La Manufacture Collectif Contemporain (Avignon, France), Nova Kultura (Sofia, Bulgaria), Espoonkaupunginttheater (Espoon, Finland).

Centriphery is a European, multidisciplinary, inclusive and intergenerational project that invites artists to a dialogue with citizens and other artists based in decentralized regions. Defines the development of publics in a broad sense, by involving citizens in the artistic process and new approaches to co-creation, through the development of participatory methodologies. The starting point for the artistic research that guides the Centriphery will be the European intangible cultural heritage, in the form of local histories and myths, and the reflection on its relevance to the identity of the regions, as well as the development potential of contemporary European narratives, or the so-called "future myths."

With activities in nine European countries and running until 2022, the Centriphery program will promote the circulation of artists, journalists and other citizens from different regions, create an open archive of European stories and myths, present exhibitions, performances, installations and other projects, as well as numerous advocacy initiatives for culture and the arts. In January 2019, the first calls for the presentation of projects, artistic residencies and exchange actions will be launched with European citizens involved with cultural practices.

In 2011, as part of its 11th edition, the Azores Walk&Talk Festival will host 17 Centriphery activities, such as the international art residency and the Living Posters Actions, a poster exhibition, travelling in different regions of Europe, which invites local people to share their stories. The program's link to the Azores region begins with the name Centriphery, which was inspired by the concept "Centriferia" coined by curator Ana Cristina Cachola in the context of his participation in the first edition of the Peripheral Seminar held in Ponta Delgada in 2016.
