The Zona dos Mistérios project is a process of research and artistic production within the field of Visual Arts that aims to create a set of works - which can include drawings, paintings, collages, photos, videos, texts and other media - from the experience and experiences obtained in Azorean volcanoes, and also to observe and analyze the effects and impacts of the Volcano in the social configuration and, consequently, in the cultural production of the communities that live in its surroundings.


Zona dos Mistérios dialogues with the expansion of the artistic space conquered from the 60's, particularly with the land art. In this process of dematalisation of the artistic object as a closed universe, the consequence was the expansion of the concept of a work of art, which resulted in the absorption of a larger context in which different artistic media touches and intertwines. The constitutional themes of the work were defined by cultural relations (literary production - folkloric / religious manifestations) and geological (volcano).
