SAGA is an Azorean artist born on the island of Faial, whose multidisciplinary practice develops in a constant dialogue between technique, feminism, and experimentation. Her personal “saga” is the impossibility of limiting herself to a single form of expression—she continually explores new textures, materials, and visual languages, moving between installations, collage, mixed media, linoleum engraving, and jewelry. Inspired by her island, but also deeply motivated by feminist issues, SAGA addresses themes such as criticism of patriarchy, the deconstruction of the dictatorship of beauty, and the tensions between modesty and bodily freedom. Her artistic career took shape with the series “Pudiquices,” a set of pieces that challenges conservatism and provokes reflection on the notion of modesty on the islands.
