Joana Gama is a Portuguese pianist who works in multiple projects, both solo and in collaborations, in classical music and in the fields of cinema, dance, theatre and experimental music. In 2017, Joana defended her doctoral thesis on contemporary Portuguese music for piano at the University of Évora, as an FCT grant holder. In 2016 she dedicated herself to SATIE.150 - a celebration in the form of an umbrella, which marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Erik Satie. Perhaps for having started in music and ballet simultaneously, Joana Gama summons a particular expressiveness to the act of playing the piano, as if the posture and the graceful movements that she learned in dance have been marked in her body.
