Aviatrix is an installation that departs from the transatlantic flying adventure of Ruth Elder. She attempted to be the first woman to fly the Atlantic from New York to Paris. With her co-pilot George Haldeman, they decided to follow the shipping routes on the American Girl monoplane. They had an oil pressure failure near the Azores. They spotted the Dutch tanker SS Barendrecht which rescued them from the sea and were given an enthusiastic welcome in Terceira, in Lisbon — where Ruth was awarded the first medal of the Portugal Aero Club —, in Madrid and Paris.
