Call out for Sweat studies is an invitation for visitors of Walk&Talk’s 9.5 edition to submit photographs which capture perspiration as it appears on clothing. The images received will be the subject of studies for an index of sweat forms, to be published later this year. All submissions –which fit the bill– will receive in exchange a pre-order of the book.

Submissions will be collected throughout the festival, and with the owners consent they will shared on the 9.5 online platform. Studies made from these images and others found by the artist will be presented as posters on the streets of Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, forming a public preview of the bookwork-in-progress.

Alex Farrar is interested in the body under stress, asking who do we sweat for and why? The fluidity of sweat, which brings to mind oppositional themes of labour, sex, illness, exercise, and nervousness (among many others), has been the subject of paintings he has been making since 2017.
