After renovation work, vaga reopens on Friday, April 12, from 7pm to midnight. The event will include the launch of the Walk&Talk 2011-2022 catalog: what you don’t know is worth discovering, the opening of an exhibition that revisits these 12 years of work, and a dinner celebrating the festival that helped build alternative affective, cultural and territorial geographies, imagining other positions and relations of the Azores in the world.
Walk&Talk is the project behind Anda&Fala, a cultural organization that found its home in 2020 at vaga – espaço de arte e conhecimento, in Bairro das Laranjeiras, in Ponta Delgada.
Over the course of two years, after the last edition of Walk&Talk in 2022, a process of organizing the digital and physical archives took place, with the aim of putting together a publication that closes the cycle of Walk&Talk as a festival and celebrates 12 years of this journey (2011-2022). Edited by Miguel Marques Mesquita and graphic design by the Lisbon studio vivóeusébio, Walk&Talk 2011-2022 catalog: what you don’t know is worth discovering was structured around key concepts that have been fundamental in defining the festival and guiding its artistic direction, offering a rhizomatic perspective of the different editions, their protagonists and the projects developed – through 10 texts, 982 images and around 600 pages.
The launch of the catalog on April 12, the day of the reopening of vaga, starts at 7pm, with Miguel Marques Mesquita (editor), Filipa André (assistant editor) and Joana Sobral (designer vivoeusébio), in a conversation that will reveal the journey that culminated in the book to be presented. This will be followed at 8.30pm by the opening of the exhibition “What you don’t is worth discovering”, curated by the association’s artistic director, Jesse James, and with museography by artist and architect Nuno Pimenta. This exhibition-archive places us on the island of São Miguel and in the collective action of building the festival, through a selection of videos and records produced over the course of its various editions that help us walk this path, contextualize processes and, above all, celebrate the people who gave Walk&Talk its body and voice.
At 8.30 p.m., “Mesa Posta” will present a dinner open to everyone and prepared by Azorean chef Catarina Ferreira, who will be joined by FLiP & Tape with a DJ set of Techno, Disco and House that will go on until midnight, at Travessa das Laranjeiras 51.
