Open Studios is the latest project by Anda&Fala, Associação Cultural, and a circuit that invites the public to explore creative spaces across the island of São Miguel over 10 days.

Between September 12 and 21, artist and creator studios, as well as independent galleries, open their doors with a program of exhibitions, workshops, walks, music, performance, and conversations for everyone. Promoted by Anda&Fala, this circuit map connects spaces and partners of varying scales, amplifying the visibility of independent cultural projects operating on the island and strengthening the local artistic ecosystem.

Six exhibitions will open: September 12 at 8:00 PM, ‘Idios Pathos 3.0’ by TAT, at Brui Galeria; September 13 at 5:00 PM, ‘Cagarros Assembly: A Jangada’ by Ellie Ga, at Museu Carlos Machado (Núcleo de Santo André), and at 8:00 PM ‘FENDA em rasgo’, a group exhibition featuring works by André Costa, Bárbara Jasmins, Gil Ferrão, João Amado, Luís Brum, and Ylana Yari, at FENDATELIER; September 14 at 5:00 PM, ‘a costela de Eva’ by Luís Miguel Cordeiro, at Centro Cultural da Caloura; September 19 at 7:30 PM, ‘INITIALIS – Mostra dos resultados do workshop de Iniciação à Serigrafia’ by Oficinas de São Miguel and participants, at MAGMA – Non Temporary Art; September 21 at 4:00 PM, ‘BeSIDE(S)’ by MUSA AZORES, at Arquipélago, Centro de Artes Contemporâneas.

Theoretical and practical workshops cover various artistic fields: on September 14 and 15, between 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM, the ‘Iniciação à Serigrafia’ workshop with Oficinas de São Miguel takes place; September 14 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, ‘Mãos no Cesto’ with MUSA AZORES, and from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, ‘Pintura em acrílico para iniciantes’ with Atelier Ponto de Arte, Martim Cymbron; on September 16 and 17 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Papel da Lua studio hosts ‘A Fábrica do Papel’ #1 and #2; also on September 17 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Andreia de Sousa shares ‘O processo criativo da artista’; September 18 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Ana Margarida Carvalho leads ‘A Liberdade da Aguarela’, at vaga, espaço de arte e conhecimento; September 21 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, there is a workshop on ‘Fotografia de Grande Formato’ with Mário Roberto, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM ‘Pintura de Azulejo’ with Matéria 47, Atelier de Cerâmica, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM ‘Conceitos na Criação’ with Célia Rakotondrainy, and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM ‘Comunidade Criativa: Pintura de Sacolas’ with Shawnette Martinho / Arte e Alegria, at vaga, espaço de arte e conhecimento.

Several musical and performance moments are scheduled: September 13 at 8:00 PM, a live act by Bekawak at FENDATELIER, and at 9:00 PM, the performance ‘Quem Pensa os Açores?’ by collective Atelineiras, at DERIVA, Centro de Artes Performativas; September 14 at 7:30 PM, ‘Wasteland Pills’, a concert by Elliot Sheedy, in Calhetas de Rabo de Peixe; September 19 at 9:30 PM, the performance ‘Universalita Studio’ by Anita Nemet, in Ponta Delgada; September 20 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the dinner visit ‘Boca Cheia’ by Mariana Pacheco de Medeiros in collaboration with Frederico Garcia, at Quinta Vila Verde in São Vicente Ferreira, and at 9:00 PM, a presentation of the show ‘Casa’ by Maria João Gouveia, at Estúdio 13; September 21, Coletivo.Plugg hosts a ‘Boiler Room’ from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM there is the performance installation ‘Crua’ featuring Giovana Sanchez and RITTA, at DERIVA, Centro de Artes Performativas.

Walks and talks serve as an invitation to collective reflection: September 14 at 6:15 PM, ‘Quimera Diurna’ by Sofia Caetano in collaboration with Elliot Sheedy, in Calhetas de Rabo de Peixe; September 15 from 9:45 AM to 1:30 PM, Margarida Andrade presents ‘Não me esqueças / #2 Caminhada de Reflexão Comunitária’, in Nordeste; September 19 at 6:00 PM, ‘Uma Conversa entre Gerações’ brings together Margarida Andrade and Urbano, at Galeria Fonseca Macedo.

Studio spaces and city gardens become gathering points: September 15 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, NANO, Núcleo Artístico do Nordeste proposes ‘A Ilha Dentro da Ilha’; September 18 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Mariana Sales Teixeira and Susana Aleixo Lopes present ‘Alqueire S’abence’; September 20, Jardim Antero de Quental in Ponta Delgada hosts the ‘Feira de Arte e Design no Jardim’, featuring Anita Nemet, Antónia Fernandes, BRUI Galeria, Cristóvão Maçarico, Hugs, João Amado, Joel Fernandes, Julia Mattos, K Design, MAGMA, Non Temporary Art, Mariana Sales Teixeira, Matéria 47, Atelier de Cerâmica, Neuza Furtado, O Estúdio, Papel da Lua, Paulo Alves, Rubén Monfort, Sérgio Jewerly, Sofia Brito, Studio Ave, SV Azores, Sweetheartes, TAT, Tea Sculac, Traça Studio Gallery, Vanessa Branco, and Vítor Teves.

Most Open Studios activities offer free admission. However, specific activities (workshops, dinner visit, walk), whether free or paid, require prior registration via info@andafala.org.
