Cristóvão Maçarico vence Open Call Jovens Criadores Walk&Talk 2022
The Young Creators Walk&Talk 2022 Open Call took place last October, and received more than a dozen applications.
Cristóvão Maçarico is the winner of the Young Creators Walk&Talk 2022, after evaluation of the applications by a jury chaired by Jesse James and Sofia Carolina Botelho - from the artistic direction of Anda&Fala, and by Filipa Oliveira - curator and visual arts programmer, responsible for the artistic direction of Casa da Cerca (in Almada).
The jury analyzed a total of 12 applications, from which it highlighted the diversity of careers and the pertinence of the fields of action and research of the various candidates, which focus on themes such as ecology, information, and identity.
Cristóvão Maçarico is 20 years old. He moved to São Miguel six years ago and is currently a painting student at the AKI Artez Fine Arts Academy (Netherlands). He uses painting, video, and sound to explore concepts of place and being and issues around the individual, the body, and transitoriness. His artistic career includes participation in the group exhibition "We never say never", which opened vaga in December 2020. This year, he started being represented by the Azorean label Marca Pistola.
The Jovens Criadores 2022 is materialized in the attribution of a creation scholarship in the value of 2000,00 €, integrated in the Artistic Residencies Program of the 11th edition of the arts festival. Cristóvão Maçarico, starting this month of November, will have curatorial and production support to present an original artistic project in July 2022 during Walk&Talk.
