Diogo Sousa (PT, 1995) lives and works on the island of São Miguel, Azores, but is originally from Santa Maria.
He has a degree in fine arts from Esad Cr. Caldas Da Rainha. He currently works as coordinator of the Museology service at Arquipélago Centro de Artes Contemporâneas.
His artistic work is divided between photography and cinema. In photography, he explores various approaches to intrusive recording, both in the specific cultural and artistic environment of the island of São Miguel and in the rural and landscape environment of the same territory, with the intention of creating archives.
He has collaborated with some regional directors in cinema, together with Cactus Sessões collective. He was the art director and actor in Diogo Lima’s film Os Últimos dias de Emanuel Raposo (2021) and, more recently art director of Francisco Lacerda’s latest film, Red Cemetery (2021), both premiered nationally at the IndieLisboa festival. Also, in 2021, he participated as an actor in the film by Elliot Sheedy, Miguel, the Mystic (2023) produced by Spectacular House.
Within the collective Cactus Sessões, he has been monitoring, producing, and art directing music videos for music projects such as We Sea and King John.
In 2021, he also participated in the image laboratory of the Fuso Insular festival, where he produced and directed the short film Gone Gone (2021) in collaboration with Gregory Lelay.
