Violaine Lochu's work is based on the exploration of the voice as a vector of encounter and metamorphosis. During long periods of immersion in specific environments, the artist collects different sound and visual materials from which she creates performances, sound installations, videos and editions.

In residence at vaga, the artist shares the first results of her research in the Azores and presents Babel Babel - a performance she composed from babble recordings she has been making since 2016.

The artist residency takes place as part of the Portugal - France 2022 Season, in which the slot is partnered with Finis terrae - Centre d'art insulaire, in Ouessant, France. Violaine Lochu develops Twin Islands - a collaborative project with Sara Bichão, which speculates and explores notions of parity, reciprocity, and exchange, is activated through residencies and materializes in an exhibition project.
