02 abr ➔ 10h00-17h00
An analysis of the most significant artistic proposals, discourses, and practices from the 20th century to the present day.
The Art History workshop, with Sandra Vieira Jürgens, aims to address central themes of modern and contemporary art. It aims to analyze the main artistic trends, to situate them in their political, social, and cultural context, as well as to provide moments of reflection on issues that even today converge in the definition of the most current artistic practice.
#1. The first avant-gardes and the neo-avant-gardes
A general presentation of the realities that shaped the artistic avant-gardes in the first decades of the 20th century and the neo-avant-gardes in the second half of the century, focusing on the widening of the scopes of artistic production and privileging the strategies of appropriation, from Marcel Duchamp to Pop art.
#2. Before and after conceptual art
It situates the artistic experience and discourse between the seventies and the present, focusing on the repercussion of conceptualism and the devaluation of the notion of an artistic object in artistic production after the end of the avant-garde. We focus on the role of the artist as producer and mediator for the exchange of experiences in the community space, as well as on other strong lines of current artistic production, the interest in time and process, participation, and performativity.
The approach combines a theoretical perspective, case studies, and collective dialogue on the themes and projects presented.
