Cães de Rua (Street Dogs), by Sérgio Conceição, is an interdisciplinary creation – combining theatre, voice, and aerial acrobatics – that transports us into the odyssey of a homeless person. The show unveils the daily life of a human being who lives on the street, exposing the struggle for survival. The narrative revolves around the fragmented memories of the character, creating a bridge between past and present, highlighting the abyss of loneliness. Cães de Rua intrinsically addresses the devastating impact of schizophrenia, attributing social isolation as the epicenter of mental disorders. It underscores the transformative importance of awareness towards others, diagnosing the human hierarchy we live in. Fundamentally, it is a direct approach to what we fear most after death: survival!
