Walk&Talk 10 - Where we go it shall be
In 2021, Walk&Talk – Azores Arts Festival returns to São Miguel for its 10th edition, from July 15 to 24, in physical format and adapted to the exercise of meetings within the new reality.
Under the statement Where we go it shall be, Walk&Talk 10 takes place over 10 days, highlighting the exploration of the dimensions of circulation, time and encounter and their influence over the construction of perceptions, codes, movements and new ecologies and communalities, with a program organized around daily excursions that are anchored on exhibitions, installations, performances, talks and food, to create ways for a collective experience of art.
The road is made with more than 20 artists and collectives that present new works, the result of artistic residencies developed in the Azores, between 2018/2021, and are linked and articulated by the dynamics shared throughout the processual and work period. This edition has its starting point at vaga - espaço de arte e conhecimento (art and knowledge space), new headquarters of Anda&Fala (organizing structure of the Festival); running through various partner entities such as Arquipélago - Centro de Artes Contemporâneas (Contemporary Arts Center) or Teatro Micaelense, and extends to other areas of the island, such as Mosteiros, Ribeira Grande and Água de Pau.
The curatorial team is formed by Jesse James and Sofia Carolina Botelho (W&T Artistic Direction) and the invited curator, Ana Cristina Cachola; and are confirmed presentations by Akhavan, Alex Farrar, Alice dos Reis, Catarina Miranda, Danny Bracken, Diogo Lima, Flávio Rodrigues, Gustavo Ciríaco, Ilhas, Joana Franco, João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Luís Senra, Luísa Salvador, Mané Pacheco, Margarida Fragueiro, Miguel Flor, Nadia Belerique, Pedro Maia & Lucy Railton, Sofia Caetano and Tropa Macaca. More participations will be announced.
The continuity of the Knowledge Program as a substantial and aggregating element of the festival is reaffirmed through the W&T Summer School and other mediation actions, and the artistic residencies will also take off in the scope of the next edition, in 2022.
Walk&Talk 10 will be one of the first public events to take place in the Azores in 2021 and a pilot experience in the implementation of procedures and norms recommended by the Regional Directorate for Health, which will make possible the return to a physical and presential experience in a safe and controlled manner.
Inevitably a celebratory edition of a 10-year journey, Where we go it shall be does not intend to focus on memory, embracing the crossroads that is the culmination of this moment, in search of the challenge of what is yet to be transformed and achieved.
Walk&Talk has the support of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture - DGArtes, the Azores Government and the City Council of Ponta Delgada.
