Grandson of Azoreans, Gonçalo Tocha grew up in the suburbs between Sacavém and Costa da Caparica. He started making music at the age of 14 and had several musical alter-egos. He graduated in Portuguese Language and Culture at Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa where he founded a cinema and Video nucleus. Self-taught in Cinema. His films are the creative record of his drift through insular and maritime territories. Author of 4 feature films, video installations and video clips. His films have been screened at festivals such as Locarno, Viennale, Bafici, Jeonju, San Francisco, Rotterdam and MoMA. In 2017, he moved to the Azores islands where he is making 3 new feature films.
