Joana Sá is a pianist, composer, and improviser who develops her work in new music/contemporary music. She is particularly interested in incorporating other media and artistic areas into her work.
She has performed at various festivals and important national and international programs. She is a member of the groups Almost a Song and POWERTRIO and frequently collaborates with the artist Rita Sá. She has made music for films (most notably Tabu by Miguel Gomes), and has collaborated with various artists and projects (Deolinda, Simão Costa, Marco Franco, Nuno Aroso, Drumming GP, Peixe...). She was co-coordinator of the music department at CENTA (2007 / 08), carrying out various projects with the community and taking part in the rExistir project with inmates from the Castelo Branco Prison Institute. She has recorded for German radio stations Deutschland Funk, SWR2, and Antena 2, and has published work for blinker, Shhpuma, Creative Sources, and Centa. She was a bass player in the band Pinhead Society between 1993 and 2000.
