Cristóvão Maria de Castro Macarico is a young artist born on September 12, 2001, in Amadora, Portugal, currently based in the Netherlands. He is pursuing a degree in painting at the AKI Artez Fine Arts Academy.
He work explores concepts of place and being and issues around the individual, the body, and transitoriness, using mixed media such as painting, writing, video, and sound. His career includes some publications and his debut in the group exhibition We never say never, which opened vaga cultural space in December 2020 in Ponta Delgada (Azores). He also won the Prize for Young Creators W&T 2022, leading to his first solo exhibition, Jumping into Existence, at Centro Municipal de Cultura de Ponta Delgada in the same year. In 2023, he participated in Terra Incógnita's music residency in collaboration with Marlene Ribeiro and Mira Thiruchelvam from 9 Grader Noord.
Maçarico's work is a testament to his dedication to the arts and his willingness to embrace the unknown through an existential - at times comic or even absurdist - perspective.
He is represented by the Azorean music label Marca Pistola.
