Janilda Bartolomeu is a researcher, filmmaker & film programmer based in Rotterdam. Her practice revolves around immaterial heritages, (post)colonial spectralities and speculations. Due to her fascination with time, her work takes on the forms of diasporic cinema and film installations. Her approaches are relational in nature and poetic in expression. Her lens intentionally withdraws from extractive values of documentation, and instead focusses on projecting otherwise - on activating potentialities. Currently, her main research centers the Cape Verdean diaspora, their immaterial heritages and the archipelago they have cultivated across the globe. Bartolomeu has collaborated with Het Nieuwe Instituut, EYE Filmmuseum and RAW Material Company.
