Ilha is an exhibition of artefacts produced from the transformation and reuse of pollutants, projected by a group of creatives. But it aims to be more than that. The premise of all this project is to start a process of cleaning the plastic spread in the seas, giving the island of São Miguel the resources, structures and procedures so that it can be done permanently and continuously. It aims to raise awareness in inhabitants and visitors of the importance of collecting and processing the plastic abandoned in Atlantic waters, provide support for the construction of the machinery needed for its transformation, and coordinate the efforts needed to establish the various procedures of a cycle that begins in the collection of plastic, and ends in the creation of objects of utilitarian and decorative use, produced in collaboration with national and international designers and artists.
