Transmalhar
Transmalhar is the act of wandering through the territory, aware of the self-body-space relationship, in order to generate new relationships with the local community and the natural, material, and immaterial heritage. As a word, it derives from the combination of the Portuguese word 'tresmalhar' (to lose one's way) and 'transdisciplinary'.

It is an art education pilot project that explores art as a civic act on the island of São Miguel to understand the relationship humans establish with the territory they inhabit in their daily lives. Coordinated by Rita Serra e Silva (architecture), and created in collaboration with Helena Oliveira (dance) and Joana Amen (psychology), Transmalhar, in its first edition, brings together young people aged 12 to 18 living in São Miguel with national/international artists/collectives and various local associations, promoting artistic co-creation.

This communal work, which will take place throughout the 2023-2024 school year, will result in several Transmalhar Encounters - walks, workshops, or assemblies on the island, open to all interested people, as well as two public presentations (Apr and Oct 2024).
