Nadia Barkate, Bilbao, 1980.
Her work refers to the space-time of drawing and its inertia. She deals with traditional techniques, but not in the expected way. They are interrupted by a strong need for action and movement, a nervous drawing that reveals a conflict between technique and desire, consequently: a drawing of skewed perceptions: lucidity, hallucination, identity, interiority, and otherness. Her practice presents a narrative that links the every day, the manual, and the word.
She holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country and a MA in Art and Research (Increarte) from the same university (UPV-EHU) where she obtained her degree.
Some of her most recent exhibitions have been in Galería Marta Cervera (Madrid), Ariatx (Bilbao), Museo Artium (Gasteiz), TACA in Palma de Mallorca, Okela (Bilbao), Bombón Projects (Barcelona), Ethall (Barcelona), among others. She also has been shown in Germany (Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster) or Altes Finanzamt (Berlin), in Prague (Litost Gallery), and Lapland (Galleria Nappa, Rovaniemi). Her work is part of the collections of Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, Museo Artium, and other private collections such as Candela Soldevilla or Cervezas Alhambra.
