Sara Bichão moves mainly around memory, nature, and corporeity. Her working process binds with emotional channels: to heal, to purge, to perpetuate, to play. The works are sculptural with a chromatic atmosphere specific to its own, being sometimes activated by the artist through performative actions. The materials used are often collected/offered/stolen or come from other recycled and organic resources. Bichão likes to start her creative production by setting up adventures (which means the achievement of an objective) or by choosing stimulating environments to face unknown directions in her work. The outcome is filtered after different forms of effort. Another prominent characteristic of this artist's work is the constant presence of an idea of translation since the sculptures are mostly always made with objects that either have had previous usages or carry a specific history triggered by the artist's intimate relation with them.
More recently, Bichão has also been exploring experimental writing. Her poetry exposes the operative way of Sara as a sculptor: it is not about the medium but the travel that it allows. Words have weight, space, and shadow; subjectiveness is a style and an intention, avoiding defining form but leading to a particular and multi-dimensional zone of affection and awareness.
