Joana Franco uses her own body, assuming its materiality, to rehearse actions, gestures and compositions, which she documents to later transform and reconfigure through image, painting, sculpture or sound, focusing on the representation and confirmation of the individual.
In of inside of, she proposes a phenomenological experience of the senses through a process permeated by empirical knowledge that is apprehended by performative action. Doing as a consequence of “being” in a space that the artist inhabits and plastically constructs, simultaneously, arises and acts through the idea of an inscribed body that reflects on an interior/exterior visual field. This inside/outside relation exists both figuratively and metaphorically and materializes in a cubic structure - a nest, in which the artist worked for several days. From this presence and living experience, a visual language is formulated that translates the intangibles of creative experience, where the inner field works as an area and matter of execution, oblivious to external factors. The cube allows access to the space “of inside”, and is assumed in the room to highlight these scales, affections and relationships.
